Salt Spray, Sea Air and Sunset Spotting

Island Hopping Tour with Sea Safari

Did you know that Abu Dhabi has nearly 200 natural islands? Nope? Nor did I. So we thought we’d better check some of them out and headed off on an Island Hopping Tour with Sea Safari to explore some of these serene islands and discover one of Abu Dhabi’s best kept secrets.

We were greeted by our super friendly crew, Captain Jesus and his first mate Ms. Siji at the Al Bateen Marina where we spied our speed boat cruiser and climbed, rather gracefully I might add, aboard. This boat comfortably seats 8 people, has a fully stocked fridge with complimentary water and soft drinks and even a Bluetooth sound system which you can plug your own party music into if you so wish. We had booked on to a four hour island hopping tour to get the most of the late afternoon sun and hopefully see a beautiful sunset, and boy we were not disappointed!

The trip kicked off at 3PM and we sped along the dazzling Corniche coastline which offered a view of Abu Dhabi's charm on every turn, or every wave (!). First stop, Corniche Bay with the most incredible view of Abu Dhabi’s skyline I’ve seen so far, and we were able to get surprisingly close to the shoreline for a perfect snap-shot view of Etihad Towers, Bab Al Qasr and the Grand Hyatt standing strong and looking out towards the presidential palace, Qasr Al Watan and Emirates Palace. We got some incredibly insta-worthy shots here and I admit to feeling a bit of a Bond Girl perching on the bow of the boat!

Next stop was Dolphin Island, a secluded and peaceful spot without a skyscraper in view and surrounded by clear blue waters. Be sure to pack your picnic and enjoy a swim, snorkel, and if you’re lucky, you may even spot a dolphin or two!

Having spent an hour here, we were whisked off to our next destination, Crystal Bay. Just WOW! We were in awe of this tranquil picture-perfect island, which you would normally expect to find on the front cover of a travel brochure. The waters are shallow and during low tide you’ll be able to catch the sand split – a narrow stretch of sand going off into the crystal clear waters. This wasn’t the end of our cruise, as we had one last stop left…

Our final stop was at Al Bahrani Island, where Captain Jesus insists it’s the best place to watch the sunset in Abu Dhabi. Sea Safari can also arrange a barbecue and bonfire at this spot, and if you have the time for a little extra it would be a wonderful experience. There is always something magical about a sunset that makes any travel experience complete, and this was truly one of the best I’ve seen, right here just off our coast. We were set up with deck chairs, and the cool box was brought down to us to toast the perfect end to a perfect day watching the sun dip behind this charming island. The cruise back was thrilling, and as we were whipping back through the waves we got an awesome view of Abu Dhabi’s twinkling night skyline to top this experience off. This will definitely be a cruise to remember.
